SAFER SAN RAMON
Protect Our Families!
NO to a Mega Costco Gas Station in our Neighborhood
Costco has filed plans with the City of San Ramon to demolish the former Office Depot at 3111 Fostoria Way and build a new MEGA 32-pump gas station across from their warehouse in Danville.
We have no problem with Costco as a business or employer but have strong concerns that they are refusing to conduct a full and comprehensive Environmental Impact Report given that the proposed MEGA gas station is near hundreds of homes and families and will negatively impact traffic, noise, public health and safety, jobs, and air quality.
STOP
MORE TRAFFIC & POLLUTION:
The 32-pump MEGA Costco gas station will result in over 9,500 vehicles per day fueling and idling up to 20 minutes each while waiting to fuel.
This will dramatically impact traffic on our local roads and worsen air quality for our families.
STOP
PUBLIC HEALTH & SAFETY RISK:
A number of toxic compounds are released from gas stations during vehicle fueling and from underground storage tank vents. These compounds include: benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylene (BTEX) which can cause nausea, cancer, anemia, increased susceptibility to infections, and low birth weight.
STOP
CONTAMINATION:
Costco is proposing to install THREE 40,000-gallon storage tanks, for a total of 120,000 gallons of fuel buried underground which in the event of an earthquake or leak could result in soil, water, and environmental contamination.
STOP
NOISE:
An estimated 11 Big Tanker Trucks will deliver fuel daily at all hours for the gas station which will be open from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm; well before and after Costco opens and closes.
STOP
HURTS SMALL BUSINESSES & LOCAL JOBS:
We already have 8 small gas stations within a two-mile radius of the proposed MEGA gas station which will only employ 1-2 attendants.
The San Ramon Planning Commission will be voting on the proposed MEGA Costco gas station on Tuesday, December 15th at 7 PM at a virtual public hearing. All residents, Danville included, who will be impacted by this project are strongly encouraged to SPEAK UP and share your concerns with the Commission.
Please join us in urging the Planning Commission NOT to rush approval for the proposed MEGA Costco gas station through until a full and adequate EIR can be conducted so that the thousands of families and residents that live near the proposed station can know with certainty whether this project will negatively impact our health, traffic, noise, safety and air and water quality.
